| I am pleased to announce that next year’s conference will be an exciting event held within District for the first time since 2003. It will be held at Penrith Panthers Pavilion, also known, for the duration of the conference, as Panthers Coliseum. |
|
Our conference theme is LOOKING FORWARD – LOOKING BACK and we have chosen the Roman god, Janus as our patron/logo. Janus is the god of new beginnings. The month of January is named for him as he can see back to the old year and forward to the next. It is fitting for a district conference to look back at what we have achieved and at the things we are good at, then look to the future and plan ahead to strengthen our clubs as we face the real prospect of redistricting in 2013.
Panthers Coliseum will allow participants to come for all the conference or choose to select that part which suits them most. It is ideal for new and busy Rotarians and your guests who may be time strapped and not able to travel for the whole weekend. Registration packages will provide the opportunity to select the most suitable options.
Our conference format will be different with business sessions restricted to Friday and Saturday only. Sunday will be turned over to Stay and Play. You can stay on site at Panthers at the Chifley Hotel and take in a casual long breakfast on Sunday, visit local attractions which you’ve never had time to do before, take in lunch on the river or take the time to chat with friends from other clubs.
Golfers will be pleased to know that the regular District 9690 Friday 'Golf Championship' is still on!
In keeping with our Roman theme, Saturday night will be a toga party honouring the god of wine and revelry, Bacchus. It will be your first chance to dress in a Roman toga since university! Don’t like a toga? Then how about a group of Senators, gladiators, centurions or slaves from your club?
We are working to put together a varied program that will include the concept of a Rotary Expo. This Expo will be open to the public on Friday afternoon and will showcase OUR Rotary in OUR District 9690 to OUR local people. It will be ideal to invite prospective members to as a way to show them what we in Rotary are doing.
Put the dates in your club program now and come and join us in Penrith at the Panthers Coliseum on March 23-25, 2012.
